Basketball Recap: Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Timberlake Christian wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, they should've done a better job of containing Adah Tuckwiller. The Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Ospreys took down the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes 60-44 on Monday thanks in part to Tuckwiller, who went 7 of 12 en route to 20 points and five assists. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023.

The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Phillips, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 10 points and five steals. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Despite the loss, Timberlake Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Elsie Smyth went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points and five rebounds. Rowan Yerrington was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 13-4. As for Timberlake Christian, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy will welcome Craig County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Craig County has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Timberlake Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Christian Heritage Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Timberlake Christian is facing Christian Heritage Academy at the right time seeing as Christian Heritage Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
