Preview: Georgetown Eagles vs. College Station Cougars

The Georgetown Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the College Station Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Georgetown sitting on four straight victories and College Station on six.

Last Friday, Georgetown didn't have too much trouble with East View at home as they won 31-13. Given Georgetown's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 195th, while East View is ranked 451st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Andrew Petter, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown. Petter is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Georgetown also got help from Ivan Espinoza who showed off his sure hands for 98 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, College Station took their match on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-19 victory over Glenn. The result was nothing new for College Station, who have now won six matches by 28 points or more so far this season.

College Station's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aydan Martinez-Brown, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 72 receiving yards. Martinez-Brown was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. Arrington Maiden was another key contributor, throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes.

Their wins bumped Georgetown to 5-2 and College Station to 6-1.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Georgetown has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 153.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like College Station struggles in that department as they've been even better at 195.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Georgetown might still be hurting after the 52-28 defeat they got from College Station in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Can Georgetown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
