Softball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Extends Winning Streak to Four

Mt. Pleasant had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came out on top against the Franklin Regional Panthers by a score of 9-6. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Danica Trainer 2027 and Gigi Stanek 2025 were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Trainer 2027 tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Stanek 2025 tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Trainer 2027 has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Trainer 2027 went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Stanek 2025 went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ella Alakson 2025 and Jenna Whipkey 2028 did most of the damage at the plate: Alakson 2025 went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Whipkey 2028 went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Whipkey 2028 has posted since back in April. Talia Reho 2027 was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Mt. Pleasant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Mt. Pleasant's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Franklin Regional, they moved to 9-4 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Mt. Pleasant does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Franklin Regional, they will head out to face off against Mt. Carmel Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
