Basketball Recap: Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot lost against Southampton Academy back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights took a 65-50 bruising from the Southampton Academy Raiders. The contest marked the Knights' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot saw an underclassman step up: sophomore John Loftin almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals. Loftin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of JonMichael Lee, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Southampton Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but G Applewhite led the charge by dropping a double-double on 25 points and 20 boards. Another player making a difference was J Holland, who earned 17 points.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3. As for Southampton Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 62-54 win against Banner Christian on the 14th. As for Southampton Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-36 victory against Windsor on the 14th.
