Basketball Game Preview: Fletcher Senators vs. Fernandina Beach Pirates

The Fletcher Senators will take on the Fernandina Beach Pirates in a tournament on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Fletcher fought the good fight in their overtime contest against First Coast on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Buccaneers 60-54. The Senators' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Fernandina Beach was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 55-49 to Ashley Ridge. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 192nd in Florida, while the Swamp Foxes are ranked 36th in South Carolina).

Fletcher's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Fernandina Beach, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Fletcher couldn't quite finish off Fernandina Beach in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 and fell 51-49. Can Fletcher avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
