Aspen (Colo.), long famous for skiing, is going to be a must-stop for college football recruiters over the next four years, according to a story in the Aspen Times.

There is great excitement over freshman Tucker Beirne, a 6-2, 210-pound quarterback. Assistant coach Lawrence Altman called him "a boy in a man's body. He's going to be spectacular. He probably knows defenses better than I do. His ability is beyond anyone's understanding." Head coach Mike Sirko added, "I don't want to freak Tucker out...but, man, he has all the tools to do a lot of great things."

* Six-foot-9, 235-pound basketball standout Zach Peters is going to also play football this fall as a senior at Prestonwood Christian (Plano, Texas), according to the Dallas Morning News. The University of Kansas recruit was a wide receiver as a freshman, but had not played the past two years.

* St. Joseph (Mich.) football coach Elliot Uzelac, who spent most of his career in the college ranks, has resigned after compiling a 45-13 record over the past five years. The school was 11-43 during the previous six years before he revived the program. The 69-year-old coach told the South Bend Tribune he resigned due to a conflict with the administration.

* Cypress Bay (Weston, Fla.) linebacker Josh Witt has made a commitment to Miami University, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The 6-2, 215-pounder made over 100 tackles as a junior and can run 40 yards in 4.5 seconds.

* The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Aurora Christian (Aurora, Ill.) quarterback Anthony Maddie has committed to Western Michigan University. He threw for 2,468 yards and 26 touchdowns while rushing for 611 yards and four touchdowns as a junior.

* Lakeville South (Lakeville, Minn.) quarterback Mitch Leidner has made a commitment to the University of Minnesota, according to the Star Tribune. Leidner (6-4, 220) passed for 2,096 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior.

* The Oregonian reports that 6-3, 280-pound Corvallis (Corvallis, Ore.) guard Isaac Seumalo has committed to Oregon State University. He is ranked as the state's No. 1 rising senior and his father, Joe, is defensive line coach at Oregon State.

* Coppell (Coppell, Texas) placekicker Nick Jordan has chosen the University of Texas, according to the Dallas Morning News. As a junior, the 6-2, 175-pounder kicked 75 extra points and was 8-of-9 on field goal attempts.

* The Gwinnett Post reported that Brookwood (Snellville, Ga.) running back Nick Tompkins has chosen Michigan State over the University of Illinois. As a junior, Tompkins rushed for 1,890 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Class AAAAA state champions.
