Basketball Recap: Lead-Deadwood Comes Up Short

Lead-Deadwood played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Spearfish Spartans, falling 70-47. While losing is never fun, the Golddiggers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Spartans are ranked 26th).

Spearfish's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kade Vavruska, who posted 12 points. Kamren Davis was another key player, putting up 12 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Lead-Deadwood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Spearfish, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lead-Deadwood will head out to square off against Mahpiya Luta at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mahpiya Luta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season. As for Spearfish, they will face off against Huron at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Spearfish also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 57.5 points per game.
