Basketball Recap: Diller-Odell Drops Highest Score of Season Against Weeping Water

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Diller-Odell). They walked away with a 68-57 win over the Weeping Water Indians on Friday. For the Griffin, this counts as revenge for the 42-34 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Diller-Odell's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cooper Morgan, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Morgan also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Diller-Odell is undefeated when he posts at least three steals, but 7-10 otherwise. Braydin Wendland was another key player, putting up 16 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Diller-Odell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They are 8-3 when they hit their own glass that hard.

When it comes to explaining why Weeping Water lost, don't look at Gus McGill. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. McGill's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jerderick Brito-Diaz, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Diller-Odell is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points over those games. Weeping Water is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.

Diller-Odell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 70-45 victory against Sterling on the 25th. As for Weeping Water, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-47 win against Omaha Christian Academy on the 24th.
