Softball Game Preview: Anaheim Colonists vs. Santiago Cavaliers

The Anaheim Colonists are taking a road trip to challenge the Santiago Cavaliers at 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Santiago will be up against a hot Anaheim team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Anaheim was the clear victor by a 13-2 margin over Tustin on Friday.

Anaheim got a great performance from Abby Barajas as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Barajas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chloe Tabita was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Taylor Falt was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Anaheim always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .515 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Santiago had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lobos a 10-0 shutout.

Anaheim's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Santiago, their record now sits at 8-4.

Anaheim took their win against Santiago in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Anaheim since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
