Basketball Preview: Pender Pendragons vs. Wayne Blue Devils
The Pender Pendragons and the Wayne Blue Devils will round out the year against one another at at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are still undefeated (Pender has eight wins , while Wayne has seven).
Last Saturday, Pender earned a 42-32 victory over Pierce.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pender to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alex Roth, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trevor Trimble, who posted 11 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wayne). They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Plattsmouth 67-38. Given Wayne's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Plattsmouth is ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wayne's win came from a few key players Pender will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jace Jorgensen, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 13 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Colson Nelsen, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 17 points.
Wayne was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Wayne's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Pender, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
