Volleyball Recap: Winfield Comes Up Short

Winfield was the 3-1 winner over Howell North when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Warriors fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Winfield wouldn't go down easily and took Howell North into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-27, 15-7.

Marlie Karsten paced Winfield's offense, picking up 19 kills. Karsten were helped by Amelia Conrad and Aubree Schott, who contributed 15 assists each. Conrad was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Howell North was led to victory by MiaBella Sander and Jaden Slusser. Sander had 40 digs and three assists, while Slusser had 21 assists and 16 digs. Those 40 digs gave Sander a new career-high.

Winfield's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Howell North, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Winfield has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Fort Zumwalt East on the 9th. As for Howell North, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Duchesne at 5:30 p.m.
