Softball Recap: Willows Honkers vs. Winters Warriors
Willows had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it seven. They lost 27-9 to the Winters Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-3 on Tuesday.
As for Winters, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-11. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
For Winters' part, Raegan Hurst made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hurst has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Josie Lundy was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayde Mathias, who went 3-for-4 with eight RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Willows will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on East Nicolaus at 4:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Winters, they will be playing at home against Paradise at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
