Marin Catholic is 8-2 against Archie Williams since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Peregrine Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Marin Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Marin Catholic's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when San Rafael hitters got past them. Morgan Carlson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 11 times she's played.
Meanwhile, Archie Williams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Tamalpais on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Peregrine Falcons have posted against the Red Tailed Hawks since May 17, 2022.
Paige Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Archie Williams saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lila James, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave James a new career-high.
Archie Williams has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Marin Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Marin Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Archie Williams struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Marin Catholic couldn't quite finish off Archie Williams when the teams last played back in March and fell 3-1. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
