Softball Recap: Apache Junction Takes a Loss

Apache Junction extended their losing streak to 12 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-14. They lost 27-0 to the Valley Christian Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-1 back in February.

As for Valley Christian, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Valley Christian's part, Makay Fraley and Noemi Piraino were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Fraley pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Piraino tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fraley has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Fraley went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Piraino went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Abrielle Jarles was a standout: she fired off three home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-3. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leigha Kremlacek, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apache Junction will welcome Combs at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Prospectors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Coyotes have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Valley Christian, they will be playing at home against Seton Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
