Softball Recap: Gates Chili Wins Going Away Against Canandaigua Academy

Gates Chili's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Canandaigua Academy Braves. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Payton Kretser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gates Chili let Mackenzie Brown and Janita Carley run wild. Brown went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Carley went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most runs Brown has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Annaliese McGill, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Gates Chili's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Canandaigua Academy, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gates Chili beat the Braves by a score of 9-2 later that day.
