Baseball Recap: Gilroy Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Gilroy hadn't done well against Del Mar recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Mustangs blew past the Dons 13-4. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mustangs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Gilroy let Abram Valdez and Brennan Neander run wild. Valdez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI, while Neander went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI Neander has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jared Nelson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

The victory snapped Gilroy's losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 7-13 record. As for Del Mar, their loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-16.

Coming up, Gilroy will challenge Christopher at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Del Mar, they will host Oak Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dons are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
