Basketball Recap: Herkimer Falls to Central Valley Academy in First Game of Season

Herkimer unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Central Valley Academy Thunder by a score of 54-51 on Friday. If the Magicians were looking for revenge after losing 55-43 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Central Valley Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Calvin Jacquays led the charge by putting up 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Smalls, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds.

Herkimer will be playing in front of their home fans against Adirondack at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th. As for Central Valley Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Vernon-Verona-Sherrill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
