Baseball Recap: Myrtle Wins Going Away Against Strayhorn

While Myrtle didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Strayhorn Mustangs on Thursday as the Myrtle Hawks made off with a 12-1 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.

Eli Crumpton was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Davis, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Myrtle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Myrtle's record is now 5-2. As for Strayhorn, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-3.

Looking ahead, Myrtle will take on Biggersville at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Myrtle will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Strayhorn, they will welcome Tupelo Christian Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Strayhorn has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
