Softball Game Preview: Vista Panthers vs. Oceanside Pirates

Vista is 1-9 against Oceanside since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out to face off against the Pirates at 4:00 p.m.

Vista came up short against San Dieguito Academy on Thursday, falling 10-2. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly eight runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oceanside). They won by a run and slipped past Canyon Crest Academy 12-11. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Anaiah Filo was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Seaven Fuimaono, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Oceanside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in June of 2024.

Oceanside's record now sits at 5-10. As for Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Vista suffered a grim 16-2 defeat to Oceanside when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
