Baseball Game Preview: Airport Eagles vs. Gilbert Indians

The Airport Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Gilbert Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Airport will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Airport is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past May River 11-2. The Eagles not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 4th (when they won 15-3).

Brice Gillette made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Daniel Butts was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Jeffcoat, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Gilbert never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out North Augusta 1-0. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won four in a row.

Airport has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Gilbert, their record is now 26-4.

Airport came out on top in a nail-biter against Gilbert in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
