Basketball Recap: Sylmar Comes Up Short

Sylmar lost against Kennedy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sylmar Spartans took a 71-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kennedy Cougars.

Despite the defeat, Sylmar saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Andrew Galvez went 7 for 11 en route to 27 points along with seven boards and six steals. Galvez has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. David Rodriguez was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Sylmar's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Kennedy, they pushed their record up to 9-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Sylmar will welcome Van Nuys at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sylmar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for Kennedy, they will head out to take on Reseda at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Reseda knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Kennedy likes a good challenge.
