Softball Recap: Haddam-Killingworth Has No Trouble Against Portland

Haddam-Killingworth never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Portland Highlanders with a sharp 22-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Highlanders: they've now won eight in a row.

Emma Giaccone made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Giaccone was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Grace Natanzon was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kacey Coon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Haddam-Killingworth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portland only posted an OBP of .176.

Haddam-Killingworth's record now sits at 2-0. As for Portland, they dropped their record down to 1-2 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Haddam-Killingworth has already played their next game, a 9-8 victory against Westbrook on the 21st. As for Portland, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 18-1 defeat against Coginchaug Regional on the 11th.
