Softball Recap: Stillwater Takes a Loss

Stillwater dropped their record down to 11-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the White Bear Lake Bears by a score of 6-4. The Ponies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Sienna Nelson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mackenzie Zrust was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Abby Sanderson also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

As for White Bear Lake, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On White Bear Lake's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lilly Martin gave up four earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anessa Pe?a, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddy Belisle, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Stillwater is taking a road trip to take on East Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raptors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Ponies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for White Bear Lake, they will head out to challenge Forest Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bears 3.4, the Rangers 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
