Basketball Preview: Hertford County Bears vs. First Flight Nighthawks
The Hertford County Bears will head out on the road to challenge the First Flight Nighthawks at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Hertford County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Last Friday, Hertford County came up short against the Eagles and fell 57-48.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Shimere Garris, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rimiez Williams, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Hertford County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, First Flight entered their tilt with the Bruins with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. First Flight came out on top against the Bruins by a score of 61-49 on Friday. Given First Flight's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Bruins are ranked 441st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Mason Dobie, who scored 25 points. Brody Woods was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Hertford County's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for First Flight, they pushed their record up to 11-9 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Hertford County didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Nighthawks in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 64-60 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hertford County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
