Baseball Recap: Cathedral Takes a Loss

Center Grove hit Cathedral with a four-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Fighting Irish fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 5-4. If the Fighting Irish were looking for revenge after losing 9-4 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cathedral got a good showing from Ethan Dorsey, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Dorsey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Bo Cooper was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Michael Gallagher, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Cathedral has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Center Grove, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Cathedral will challenge Ben Davis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Center Grove, they will square off against Roncalli at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 2.5, the Royals 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
