Softball Game Preview: Kankakee Kays vs. Momence Momence Athletics

The Kankakee Kays will venture away from home to face off against the Momence Momence Athletics at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Kankakee is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

Kankakee proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 16) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Bloom, sneaking past 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kylie Glogowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits.

At the plate, Kylee Cunningham was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lillian Landis, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Kankakee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Momence). They walked away with a 10-6 victory over Illinois Lutheran on Thursday.

Kankakee pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Momence, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-16.

Kankakee beat Momence 5-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2017. Do the Kays have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Momence Athletics turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
