Basketball Game Preview: Wimberley Texans vs. Cuero Gobblers

The Wimberley Texans will square off against the Cuero Gobblers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Wimberley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They blew past Manor New Tech 63-11. Wimberley's win was all the more impressive since Manor New Tech were averaging only 26.59 points allowed on the season.

Meanwhile, Cuero had already won 15 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.1 points) and they went ahead and made it 16 on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wildcats 69-40. With the Gobblers ahead 39-17 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Cuero's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 29-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.9 points. As for Wimberley, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 25-8 record this season.

Wimberley ended up a good deal behind Cuero in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, losing 49-32. Can Wimberley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
