Baseball Recap: Springfield Spartans vs. St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish
Springfield extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-18. They came up short against the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish, falling 7-0. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Fighting Irish from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.
As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, their record is now 14-9. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25th (when they won 10-2).
For St. Vincent-St. Mary's part, Aidan Roberts tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.2 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Roberts a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brady Whitney, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Hurley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Springfield will face off against Lake Center Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tiger's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, they will take on Tallmadge at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
