Football Game Preview: Vasquez Mustangs vs. Hamilton Bobcats

The Vasquez Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Hamilton Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vasquez will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Vasquez's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past California Military Institute 44-0. Considering the Mustangs have won three games by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Zack Van Ornum had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 101 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries, while also throwing for 70 yards and one TD. Vasquez also got a significant boost from Blake Mascon, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 113 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Vasquez was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 369 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Hamilton played a tough matchup last Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 56-12 loss at the hands of Kearny. The Bobcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-0.

Hamilton's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Vasquez, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Vasquez has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 365.6 total yards per game. It's a different story for Hamilton, though, as they've been averaging only 208.2 total yards. Will Vasquez be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Bobcats flip the script?

Vasquez didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Hamilton in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 21-16 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bobcats' William Hamlett, who rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns.
