Baseball Recap: Mountain View Wins Going Away Against Austin

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mountain View walked away with it. They blew past the Austin Panthers 7-1 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Lobos in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.

Samuel Gutierrez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Mountain View is undefeated when Gutierrez posts eight or more strikeouts, but 10-15 otherwise. Gutierrez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Peinado, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Kaleb Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Mountain View's victory bumped their record up to 13-15. As for Austin, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-19.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mountain View beat the Panthers by a score of 10-0 on Friday.
