Basketball Recap: Grapeland Snags 15th Win in Last 17 Games

Grapeland had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They secured a 71-67 W over the LaPoynor Flyers on Tuesday. For the Sandies, this counts as revenge for the 88-74 victory the Flyers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.

Despite the loss, LaPoynor still got an impressive performance from Cort Reid, who posted 34 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 50.7% of LaPoynor's points, marking the sixth time in a row Reid has put up more than a third of the team's points. Elijah Williams was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten boards.

Grapeland is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points over those games. As for LaPoynor, their loss dropped their record down to 23-11.

Coming up, Grapeland will take on Mart on Thursday. Mart will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Grapeland surely won't give up without a fight. LaPoynor does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
