Baseball Game Preview: Cypress Bay Lightning vs. Western Wildcats

Cypress Bay is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Western is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Lightning will host the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cypress Bay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Cypress Bay let Cooper City stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Thursday but luckily Cypress Bay prevailed anyway. The Lightning came out on top against the Cowboys by a score of 8-5.

Cypress Bay got a great performance from Gabriel Tovar as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Tovar has posted since back in March of 2025.

At the plate, Cypress Bay let David Granger and Max Connell run wild. Granger got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Connell got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Dylan Drysdale, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Western made easy work of Lake Howell on Friday and carried off a 9-3 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Western's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Cypress Bay, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.

Cypress Bay was able to grind out a solid win over Western in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, winning 5-2. Will the Lightning repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
