Basketball Recap: Anderson County Comes Up Short

After flying high against Marmaton Valley last Thursday, Anderson County came back down to earth. The Anderson County Bulldogs took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Humboldt Cubs. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Anderson County lost on Friday, don't look at Noah Porter. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 boards. What's more, Porter also racked up eight steals, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brylan Sommer, who posted six points and four steals.

Humboldt's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tre Franklin, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 16 points. Colden Cook was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Anderson County's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Humboldt, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

While Anderson County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
