It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Brewster had no problem doing just that on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Scarsdale Raiders. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bears as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Brewster wouldn't go down easily and took Scarsdale into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-13, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12.
Despite the loss, Scarsdale saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lily Huang had nine digs and 21 assists. Those nine digs set a new season-high mark for Huang. Another player making a difference was Fuko Shindo, who had 24 digs, two aces, and a kill.
Brewster now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Scarsdale, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14-1.
Brewster will head out to challenge Ossining at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Ossining is coming into the match with four straight wins at home, so Brewster will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Scarsdale does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
