Basketball Recap: Gateway Christian Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Gateway Christian's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 67-48 victory over the Elida Tigers. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 55-52 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Gateway Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Victor Oaxaca out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Oaxaca a new career-high in steals (four). Another player making a difference was Zack McCracken, who went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points and three blocks.

Gateway Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Elida saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hayden Wolf posted 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Wolf.

Gateway Christian's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Elida, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

Coincidentally, Gateway Christian and Elida will both be playing Grady the next time they take the court. Elida will head out to face Grady at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Gateway Christian will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
