Preview: South Dearborn Knights vs. Madison Cubs
South Dearborn is 1-9 against Madison since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Dearborn Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Madison Cubs at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
South Dearborn had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Jac-Cen-Del with points to spare, taking the game 61-46.
South Dearborn's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brodie Teke led the charge by scoring 20 points. Adam Kunkel was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 5 steals.
Meanwhile, even though Corydon Central scored an imposing 64 points on Saturday, Madison still came out on top. Madison secured a 70-64 W over Corydon Central.
Quincy Reynolds was a one-man wrecking crew for Madison as he scored 31 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which Reynolds has scored at least 25% of Madison's points. Another player making a difference was ?scar Gonzalez, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
South Dearborn's win bumped their season record to 3-0 while Jac-Cen-Del's loss dropped theirs to 1-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as South Dearborn and Madison are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. South Dearborn hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 57.7 points per game. It's a different story for Madison, though, as they've been averaging only 60 per game. South Dearborn was able to grind out a solid victory over Madison in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 65-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Dearborn since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
