Newark Memorial proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 19) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Moreau Catholic Mariners 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Connor Murphy made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Medrano, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Fabian Guzman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Newark Memorial pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Moreau Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Newark Memorial beat Moreau Catholic by a score of 4-2 on Friday.
