Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is De Beque's Fourth in Last Five Outings

If Caprock Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played De Beque, they should've done a better job of containing Burke Largent. The De Beque Dragons walked away with a 61-52 victory over the Caprock Academy Eagles on Wednesday thanks in part to Largent, who dropped a double-double on 36 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of De Beque's points.

Another player making a difference was Jace Graham, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards. He has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last ten times he's played.

Despite the loss, Caprock Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tristin Bird dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bird has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Holt, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

De Beque is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Caprock Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. De Beque has already played their next contest (against Soroco), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Caprock Academy will face off against Ouray at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Caprock Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season.
