The Willow Glen Rams will challenge the Live Oak Acorns at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Willow Glen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Willow Glen and Santa Teresa, and Santa Teresa kept the tradition alive. The Rams fell just short of the Saints by a score of 9-8 on Friday.
Willow Glen got a good showing from Tyson Paganini, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Paganini has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ray Walsh was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Gavin Holmes also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Live Oak). They were the clear victors by a 22-1 margin over Hill on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Acorns, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Thomas Guenet made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Live Oak is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise. Guenet was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Live Oak got a massive performance out of Jonah Chattha, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Chattha is becoming a predictor of the Acorns' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Nathan Bergstrom was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Live Oak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Willow Glen's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-4. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Live Oak, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Willow Glen has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Willow Glen was able to grind out a solid victory over Live Oak in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Acorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
