Soccer Game Preview: Amherst Central vs. Starpoint

The Amherst Central Tigers will challenge the Starpoint Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Amherst Central is headed into Friday's contest hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Williamsville South. That's two games in a row now that Amherst Central have lost by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Starpoint's offense. They came up short against East Aurora on Tuesday, falling 3-0. While losing is never fun, Starpoint can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York soccer rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while East Aurora are ranked ninth).

Amherst Central's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Starpoint, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Amherst Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Starpoint when the teams last played last Monday, winning 2-0. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
