Baseball Recap: Clover Hill Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Clover Hill lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Matoaca, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's matchup. The Clover Hill Cavaliers put the hurt on the Matoaca Warriors with a sharp 12-2 victory on Monday. This was payback for the Cavaliers, who suffered an 11-9 loss the last time these two teams met.

Carson Hupp made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, James Nigriny was a standout: he scored two runs while going 1-for-3. T.J. Powell was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Clover Hill's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Coming up, Clover Hill will face off against Monacan at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Clover Hill's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Matoaca, they are taking a road trip to square off against Mechanicsville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
