Basketball Game Preview: Springfield Spartans vs. Streetsboro Rockets

Springfield hasn't had much luck against Streetsboro recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Spartans will face off against the Rockets at 12:30 p.m. Springfield has given up an average of 59.5 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Springfield is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Cloverleaf on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Spartans were dealt a 67-22 defeat at the hands of the Colts. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-18.

Meanwhile, Streetsboro had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They snuck past Ellet with a 43-37 victory two weeks ago. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Orangemen: they've now won three in a row.

Springfield better focus on containing Ma'Ryah McIntosh and Carlee Bedford as the pair were huge in Streetsboro's win. McIntosh went 7-for-10 on her way to 16 points in addition to five boards and five steals, while Bedford shot 50% from the field en route to 15 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Bodovetz, who posted six points along with nine rebounds and four steals.

Streetsboro was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellet only posted four.

Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Streetsboro, their record now sits at 1-0.

Springfield was taken down by Streetsboro 50-19 when the teams last played back in February. Thankfully for the Spartans, Naomi Benson (who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 17 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
