Preview: Combs Coyotes vs. Astoria Fishermen

The Combs Coyotes will head out on the road to face off against the Astoria Fishermen at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. One thing working in Combs' favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.

Combs pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marcos de Niza. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Combs has scored all season.

Despite their loss, Combs saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Logan Tuckfield, who scored 16 points, was perhaps the best of all. The game was Tuckfield's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jae Lujan, who scored 17 points.

Even though they lost, Combs were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marcos de Niza only racked up 20 assists.

Meanwhile, Astoria waltzed into their match Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Corbett 72-32 at home. Given Astoria's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Corbett is ranked 216th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Combs' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3. As for Astoria, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
