Basketball Recap: Wiltrez (Trez) Mincey Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Augusta E

Curtis Baptist's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 68-56 victory over the Augusta E Eagles. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Eagles are ranked 559th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Curtis Baptist got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wiltrez (Trez) Mincey out in front who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 15 boards. Mincey's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Treivan Wright was another key player, going 9 of 16 en route to 23 points.

Augusta E lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jude Brouwer, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 25 points along with six rebounds and five assists. That was a full 44.6% of Augusta E's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Briley, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Curtis Baptist now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Augusta E, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Curtis Baptist will head out on the road to square off against Charleston Collegiate at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Charleston Collegiate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.7 points per game this season. Augusta E has already played their next match (against Coastal HomeSchool), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
