Basketball Recap: Monroe's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Monroe waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They skirted past the Westover Patriots 59-56. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 41-39 on January 10th.

Monroe got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was James Adams out in front who went 6 of 10 on his way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Adams has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Brayden Burns was another key player, as he made all 5 shots he took for 14 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mykell Hines, who went 5 for 6 en route to 11 points and eight boards. Those 11 points gave Hines a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Holmes, who posted eight points and three blocks.

Monroe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Westover, they moved to 13-5 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Monroe will head out on the road to square off against Bainbridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Westover, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dougherty at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westover is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
