Baseball Preview: Enumclaw Hornets vs. Decatur Golden Gators

Enumclaw and Decatur are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Hornets will head out to challenge the Golden Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Enumclaw 2, Decatur 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Hornets on Thursday. Enumclaw won by a run and slipped past White River 4-3. Enumclaw hasn't had any issues with White River recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Enumclaw got a great performance from Carter Grant as he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Grant a new career-high.

At the plate, Enumclaw's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Anderson has posted since back in May of 2024. Another was Juden Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Decatur put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their undefeated season alive. They blew past Peninsula 10-3. Ten seems to be a good number for the Golden Gators as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Spencer Holloway and Landon Le did most of the damage at the plate: Holloway went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Le went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Holloway has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Havili, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Decatur was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peninsula only posted a batting average of .214.

Decatur's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-0-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Enumclaw, their record now sits at 11-2.

Enumclaw took their victory against Decatur in their previous meeting back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
