Basketball Game Preview: Arrupe Jesuit Generals vs. Arvada Bulldogs

Arrupe Jesuit is 3-0 against Arvada since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 5:30 p.m. Arrupe Jesuit is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Arrupe Jesuit is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Jefferson Academy two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Arrupe Jesuit was beaten by Jefferson Academy 66-29. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while the Jaguars are ranked 98th).

Despite the defeat, Arrupe Jesuit saw an underclassman step up: freshman Leila Alvarez went 6 of 11 on her way to 13 points and four steals. Alvarez is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Meanwhile, everything went Arvada's way against Hinkley two weeks ago as Arvada made off with a 34-13 victory. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 21 points or more this season.

Arvada's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-5. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 16.0 points per game. As for Arrupe Jesuit, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Arrupe Jesuit came out on top in a nail-biter against Arvada when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 51-49. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Arvada's Emma Ngewasi, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Arrupe Jesuit to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
