Softball Game Preview: Mahanoy Area Golden Bears vs. Marian Catholic

Mahanoy Area is 1-9 against Marian Catholic since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Golden Bears will challenge Marian Catholic at 5:00 p.m.

Last Monday, Mahanoy Area came up short against Pottsville and fell 10-5.

Meanwhile, Marian Catholic got the win against Nativity BVM on Saturday by a conclusive 19-2. Marian Catholic might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Marian Catholic got a great performance from Kayla Birrer as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Birrer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

The win made it two in a row for Marian Catholic and bumps their season record up to 11-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Mahanoy Area, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Mahanoy Area suffered a grim 14-6 defeat to Marian Catholic in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Golden Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
