Football Recap: A.C. Flora Skates Past Dreher with Ease

A.C. Flora had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They claimed a resounding 48-0 victory over the Dreher Blue Devils. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Falcons' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 145th).

A.C. Flora's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jalen Simmons, who rushed for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries. Those 140 rushing yards gave Simmons a new career-high. Another passer making a difference was Roper Wentzky, who threw for 192 yards and three TDs while completing 88% of his passes.

A.C. Flora's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Peyton Bishop, Monty Laffitte, and Nasir Walker, who each picked up one sack apiece. A.C. Flora got some further help from Azel Banag: he forced one fumble, made nine total tackles, and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.

A.C. Flora's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Dreher, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Wentzky and Greyson Rimpf. Meanwhile, Dreher is set to square off against their familiar foe South Pointe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
