Softball Game Preview: Hillsboro Indians vs. Circleville Tigers

The Hillsboro Indians will face off against the Circleville Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hillsboro comes in on eight and Circleville on three.

Hillsboro is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Vinton County by a score of 6-2.

Camryn Spruell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Choe Roberts, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Isabelle Brunck, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Seven must be Circleville's lucky number: they beat South Point with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Tigers beat the Pointers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-5.

Hillsboro's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Circleville, their win bumped their record up to 11-14.

Hillsboro couldn't quite finish off Circleville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
